House Painting,  the most coveted of all things to paint.  Also the most sensitive and critical form of painting.

Why?  Well, it's the most coveted because it's warm...the majority of house painting takes place indoors,  which is of particular interest to us northern painting contractors during the winter.  Plus,  it's where most custom work and decorative coatings are used,  which is very fun and rewarding.

The most sensitive,  because there are many variables to consider and plan for including but not limited to; protection and moving of personal belongings and furniture,  indoor air quality (odors, vapors, etc.),  currently occupied coordination,  containment of debris and dust,  timing and puctuality,  personal interaction and communication with you and your family,  just to name a few.

And the most critical,  because if any one of the above mentioned strategies is overlooked, under-valued or not included in the price,  than it makes for a more expensive,  stressful and unpleasant experience than desired.

FAQ's

Can you give us a ballpark over the phone?

No.

Do you also do carpentry?

We offer pre-paint carpentry services, which encompasses removing and disposing of rotten siding and trim and replacing with new material.  We also offer window and door replacements.  We do not offer structural carpentry services but we know and work with many good builders and can certainly point you in the right direction as requested.

What type of paint do you recommend?

There are a lot of factors to consider before selecting or specifying materials.  These factors range from examining the existing coating (if any), interior vs. exterior, budget, lifespan expectancy, current and potential problems as well as temperatures, substrate variances, etc.

Generally speaking, we find that for commercial painting Sherwin Williams Paints meets our customers and our companies needs rather well.  And for residential, we find that Benjamin Moore Paints are the better fit.

Both Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore are industry leaders in paint manufacturing and we have confidence in them both.  And if they don't manufacture it themselves, they usually have a way to access it.

What are the differences of paint vs. stain?

This question comes up a lot and ultimately should be decided based on your plans for the home and what is currently on the surfaces.  The advantages of using a paint vs. a stain are as follows;

Beter color retention.
Longer lifespan.  (almost twice as long)
Variety of sheen's. (flat, satin, semi-gloss, gloss)
Applicable to substrates other than just wood.

Disadvantages of using a paint vs. a stain include;

Not a penetrative coating, creating a paint film that eventually cracks and peels.
More expensive per gallon.
More difficult to apply.

Below, we have pictures highlighting various surface failures, which as you can see, demonstrate how cost effective preventative maintenance really is.
